 BACKGROUND
A 1995 community needs assessment identified lack of knowledge about available services and programs as a priority community need. After an extensive interagency and community data collection effort, a hard copy edition of the Garrett County Family Services Directory was distributed in February of 1997. In April  of 1997 the directory was placed online. With the publication of the LMB ONLINE Community Information File, the general public is now able to search the database online to locate information about programs for children and families in Garrett County. Staff at local agencies who are "Registered Users" are also able to update their program entries online.

During fiscal year 2001 staffing for the ONLINE CIF project is supported by a multi-county Resource Development/Enhancement Funding Grant from the Maryland Subcabinet for Children, Youth and Families. Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Washington Counties are working collaboratively on the ONLINE Community Information File project as part of the Western Maryland Partnership: Youth Services Network.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The Garrett County Partnership for Children and Families' LMB ONLINE Community Information File project began in 1995.  Initially, this project was supported by a multi-year Federal Family Preservation and Support grant administered by the Garrett County Office for Children, Youth and Families, Inc. The pilot project was supported by contributions from Local Managment Boards in Allegany, Somerset, Washington and Worcester Counties. Staff from the Baltimore City LMB, the Western Maryland Regional Library, Prince Georges Community Foundation and United Way of Central Maryland supplied additional expertise for this collaborative endeavor.

A special recognition is  due to Jeff Blank at AllCoNet. In addition to  providing top-notch technical expertise for this project, Jeff  has had the patience and perseverance to  cheerfully accommodate multiple requests for modifications to the Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Washington Local Management Board ONLINE CIF databases.
